this weekends iPad painting. it was completely overcast for Saturdays class which gives you very consistent light. i tried out a new app called Inspire Pro. very painterly. good comparative color picker, good brushes, nice cross-hair for stylus. 95% painted in Inspire and the other 5% in sketchbook pro for some scatter brush effect.

we will be meeting at Millard canyon at 9:30am. the half hour is to give you extra time, don't abuse it. you will need to get an "Adventure Pass" to park there. they can be purchased at Sport Chalet, REI and maybe Big 5. you can buy a one day pass instead of a full year. make sure you have print outs of the homework!!! i wont look at your screen.

Trailhead and directions to trailhead: From Loma Alta Drive in Altadena, go north on Chaney Trail to the top of Sunset Ridge turning left and going down the hill on the other side to a large parking lot. the lot is down after the ridge. keep driving down.

ok, for the last class we will meet at El Matador Beach. you can take the Pacific Coast Highway or the 23 (i take the 23) we will meet at 10:30 since it's a bit of a drive and BRING all your work in a portfolio for grading as this is the final class. i can't stress this enough if you want a grade. i would not recommend a laptop on the actual beach as the wind is constantly blowing sand. there is a parking fee as well, you will need to get an envelope near the bathroom and fill it out, pay the fee and place the receipt in your window. the $4 is much cheaper than the $50 ticket.

i called the Huntington Gardens and got permission for us to paint there but only with laptops. they generally do not allow the use of oils, acrylics, etc. you must only paint with a laptop or bring a sketchbook. also, i allow a 15 minute grace period when taking roll because we do travel to different locations and occasionally people get lost but after 15 minutes you are marked tardy. we will meet at 9:30 in front of the ticket booth. i think ticket prices are $7-10.
